Apartment Refurbishment

Renovation in the Eixample neighbourhood in Barcelona. The old apartment with small bedrooms and labyrinth service area has been totally refurbished opening up the spaces and giving it a classical touch.

The apartment is divided into the night area and the day area, connected through a long corridor with an unused big space serving the bedrooms. This space has been reduced to give more surface to the bedrooms.

The existing kitchen was long, dark and with a laundry and service room that made it smaller.

The service area was demolished, creating a big kitchen opened to the dining area and filled with natural light.

The laundry and a guest bathroom were created facing the inner patio.

The client wanted a classical touch as a reminder of the old flat, the tiles, the restored wooden floors and the choice of materials give the apartment a classical feeling.

The existing chimney was restored, painted black and surrounded by a built-in library lacquered in grey.

Iron, wood and wallpaper combine with neutral tiles. The whole apartment was painted in grey, with the wooden features in white to stand out.

The parental suite is on the opposite side of the apartment facing a quiet inner patio. A custom-made wardrobe, headboard and chest of drawers lacquered in the same grey combine with the existing brick walls of the gallery serving as a studio and reading area.

To make the parental bathroom bigger, the custom-made washbasin cabinet is separated from the toilet-shower space and leads to the bedroom from the corridor.

All the metallic features are black: window frames, radiators, handles and faucets, and contrast with the grey in the walls.
